About Dr Ferdinando...

Ferdy was born in Milan in April 1971, where he qualified as a Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Psychotherapist.

He has a PhD in Clinical Psychology and has been working therapeutically with individuals, couples and families since 2003.

He holds the position of Senior Lecturer at the University of Northampton, where he is Course Leader for the Master in Counselling with Children and Young People.

Comprehensive Therapeutic Assessment

 

A comprehensive assessment aims at offering an in depth understanding of the child’s needs and struggles associated with his/her overall human situation.

 

As such, the comprehensive assessment will explore not only the child’s individual functioning in terms of social and emotional development, potential challenges and unique strengths, but will relate all this to the context he lives in.

A comprehensive assessment will include an assessment of the family structure, dynamics, communication styles and typical interaction, thus offering a comprehensive picture of the child situation, in order to maximize intervention strategies.

Cooperation from school and family will be essential, in order to construct a truthful picture of the child’s unique strengths and needs, thus leading to a joint effort in the best interest of the child.

The comprehensive assessment relies on the clinical sensitivity and empathy of the assessment team professionals, but also on internationally validated measures both for the individual and the family functioning.

The comprehensive assessment will offer a full report, detailing measures utilized and outcomes, along with clinical conclusions and recommendations, expressed in a way that is both accessible and informative, stemming from an empathic and respectful approach not only to the child, but to the whole family.

 

Individual Therapeutic Assessment

The individual assessment will focus on the child’s needs and struggles, offering an in depth exploration of the individual functioning which includes emotional, cognitive and relational level.

Although the individual assessment is designed to enhance the understanding of the child’s situation on an individual level, the cooperation from school and family will be essential, in order to construct a truthful picture of the child’s unique strengths and needs.

Couple Therapy

A couple is a living being and, as such, it has its own life cycle, existential tasks and goals, unique challenges.

A couple crisis is a painful, unsettling moment in human life, but also carries the opportunity to re-define roles, representations and boundaries within the couple.

Couple Therapy is a therapeutic intervention specifically designed to help partners not to miss this opportunity.

It is a free territory for partners to explore their mutual relationship and work together toward a way forward.

The couple therapy setting is not designed to “fix” a couple, as there are no “broken” couples, but to offer the opportunity, facilitated by an experienced therapist, to explore mutual feelings, unspoken needs and silent (or explicit) conflicts.

 

The main aim is to foster an open conversation between partners, in order to work together toward individual and couple well-being.

 

Systemic Family Therapy

Systemic Family Therapy, particularly designed to address issues with young people and children in a family setting, stems from one idea: as a part of the family, we are all connected and, despite all individual goals and needs, we shared togetherness and mutual belonging.

When a child presents with a problem, Systemic Family Therapy aims at engaging the whole family in the search for a solution.

The techniques and strategies of Systemic Family Therapy aim at helping everyone in the family understand one another a bit betters, so that they can make a better job in supporting each other toward a solution.

When working in a Systemic Family Therapy setting, we embrace the spirit of our brave fire fighters: regardless of who started a fire, we will extinguish it together!
